A Pewaukee shop on Wisconsin Avenue and a Delafield Street inspection is how a Waukesha letter actually moves. The carrier still named Federal Pacific on the panel.
The city inspector will not own the We Energies seal. We Energies will not print the electrical permit. Those two systems do not match. A helper with a van cannot stand in for either one.
What the utilities actually wrote
Most Waukesha, Pewaukee, Brookfield, and New Berlin bills are We Energies. Confirm the logo on the bill before anyone prices the job.
Start with the meter-certification page. We have policies prohibiting electricians from cutting meter seals and removing meters when performing residential service rewires.
The policies were created to keep electricians and homeowners safe.
In certain scenarios, a certified licensed electrician can disconnect a service and remove and reinstall a meter. That certification is for a Wisconsin-licensed electrician who finished the company’s training. It is acceptable only in We Energies’ southeastern service area, south of Highway 151 and east of Interstate 90.
An inspection is required to re-energize the service. Offenders will be reported to the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services. That is not a homeowner meter-pull path.
We Energies does not publish a guaranteed power-off hour count. Same-day reconnect on the temporary-disconnect program needs the inspection no later than 3:30 p.m. Call 800-714-7777 to schedule. Commercial rewires and residential 320-amp rewires still require a scheduled disconnect and reconnect. Trusted writes most residential panel upgrades are completed in one day. That is a contractor field note.
Permits in Waukesha and in Pewaukee
Inside the City of Waukesha, start at Building Inspection, 201 Delafield Street. The department phone is 262-524-3500. Electrical inspector Peter Lenti is at 262-524-3533.
Who pulls the permit matters. Only licensed electrical contractors may obtain permits and perform electrical work in the City of Waukesha. All installed electrical work is subject to inspector approval. Pewaukee files at Building Services, W240 N3065 Pewaukee Road. Phone is 262-691-9107. Pewaukee still publishes instructions for homeowners applying for permits. That path is for work the owner will perform. No work may commence without having first obtained the permit. Owning the home does not mean you should pull the permit and then hire someone under your name.
Brookfield, New Berlin, and Menomonee Falls each have their own counter. A quote that only says “we handle the permit” should name the city or village on the address.
Price, without inventing one
The Pewaukee listing and a northwest Wisconsin cost page do not print the same band.
Trusted’s own panel page prints upgrades at $2,500 to $4,500. JETA’s Amery page prints FPE / Zinsco replacements at $2,800 to $3,800. Those two systems do not match. We will not average them. We are not inventing a Delafield Street midpoint from either system.
Wisconsin license lookup is public. Ask for the DSPS number and check it before you sign. One shop advertises this work on their own site and prints a license number. Trusted’s panel page names Federal Pacific (Stab-Lok) and Zinsco replacements. The shop’s own site prints Master Electrician #1274-ME and Contractor #1585427. They write daily work from 1275 E Wisconsin Ave in Pewaukee. They are listed for the panel letter, not as a Waukesha County directory.
Directory-only shops are omitted. A page that names these brands and does not print a Wisconsin electrical contractor number is not a listing. The listed shop is not affiliated with Panel Letter.
What to hand the carrier
The useful packet is the closed City of Waukesha, City of Pewaukee, or other Waukesha County electrical permit, the passed electrical inspection, an invoice with the license number that was on the permit, and photos if the letter asks. If your electrician produces a load calculation or panel schedule, send that too. We did not find a carrier page that publishes a single statewide sticker form. Ask the agent what they will actually open.

Permit
City of Waukesha Building Inspection
Who pulls it: Building Inspection sits at 201 Delafield Street, Waukesha, WI 53188. The department phone is 262-524-3500. Electrical inspector Peter Lenti is at 262-524-3533, plenti@waukesha-wi.gov. Hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Electrical files go through eTrackit. Only licensed electrical contractors may obtain permits and perform electrical work in the City of Waukesha. Pewaukee is a different counter. Pewaukee Building Services sits at W240 N3065 Pewaukee Road, Pewaukee, WI 53072. Phone is 262-691-9107. Email is buildingservices@pewaukee.wi.us. Brookfield, New Berlin, and Menomonee Falls are not the Delafield Street file.
Pewaukee still publishes instructions for homeowners applying for permits. That path is for work the owner will perform. No work may commence without having first obtained the permit. Work done without a permit may result in additional fees. Inspections in Pewaukee are Tuesday through Friday, 12 to 5 p.m., with at least 48 hours notice. A quote that only says we handle the permit should name Waukesha, Pewaukee, or the village on the address. Wisconsin electrical-contractor advertising is DSPS. Ask for the number they will put on the file.
Utility coordination
We Energies on most Waukesha and Pewaukee bills
Who disconnects: We Energies is blunt about the seal. We have policies prohibiting electricians from cutting meter seals and removing meters when performing residential service rewires. The policies were created to keep electricians and homeowners safe. In certain scenarios, a certified licensed electrician can disconnect a service and remove and reinstall a meter. That certification is for a Wisconsin-licensed electrician who completed the company’s training. It is acceptable only in We Energies’ southeastern service area, south of Highway 151 and east of Interstate 90. An inspection is required to re-energize the service. Offenders will be reported to the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services. That is not a homeowner meter-pull path.
Outage window: We Energies does not publish a guaranteed power-off hour count for a residential panel swap. Same-day reconnect on the temporary-disconnect program needs the inspection no later than 3:30 p.m.
Confirm the logo on the bill before anyone prices the job. Most Waukesha, Pewaukee, Brookfield, and New Berlin addresses are We Energies. A like-for-like panel swap still needs the city or village inspection and that We Energies ticket. A service-size change is still the company’s disconnect and reconnect, or a certified electrician on the company’s list, not a helper cutting the seal. Commercial rewires and residential 320-amp rewires still require scheduling a disconnect and reconnect. Trusted writes most residential panel upgrades are completed in one day. That is a contractor field note.
What to hand the insurer
- Closed City of Waukesha, City of Pewaukee, or other Waukesha County electrical permit
- Passed electrical inspection
- Invoice showing the Wisconsin DSPS license number used on the permit
- Photos of the old and new panel if the carrier’s letter asks for them
- Load calculation or panel schedule if the electrician produced one
Ask your agent for the exact list. Carriers do not publish a single national checklist.
Electricians who advertise this job
A shop is listed only if it advertises Federal Pacific, Zinsco, or insurance-driven panel replacement on its own site and prints a license number there. Trade-association locators already exist. We will not pad this list. Verify the license before you hire.
To get introduced, use the quote form on this page. We do not send you to the shop from here.
