SECO will charge the member of record $250 if anyone but SECO cuts the meter seal. Sumter County and Lady Lake still want their own electrical files. One Villages-area shop names Federal Pacific and Zinsco on its own site and prints an EC number.
The county inspector will not own the SECO seal. SECO will not print the Powell Road electrical permit. Those two systems do not match. A helper with a van cannot stand in for either one.
What the utilities actually wrote
Most Villages and Sumterville bills are SECO. Confirm the logo on the bill before anyone prices the job.
Start with the developer page. A member of record must contact SECO Energy to request a temporary disconnect, or to authorize an electrician to request one.
Give the proposed timeframe.
Call SECO at 352-793-3801 once the work has been inspected and is ready to reconnect.
Non-SECO employees are not authorized to cut seals.
If a meter seal is cut, the member of record will be charged a $250 fee.
SECO must also verify that the meter, meter can, and lugs have not been damaged.
The county may require a permit and inspection before service is re-energized.
Some Lady Lake and Lake County roads can be Duke Energy. Those are different disconnect desks.
SECO does not publish a guaranteed power-off hour count. The listed shop writes that most panel upgrades finish in a single day, typically within 4 to 8 hours. That is a contractor field note.
Permits in The Villages, Sumter County, and Lady Lake
In Sumter County, start at Building Services, 7375 Powell Road, Suite 115. The phone is 352-689-4400.
Who pulls the permit matters. Sumter’s FAQ says the contractor or the owner of the property can apply. Owning the home does not mean you should pull the permit and then hire someone under your name.
Lady Lake files at 221 W. Guava Street. Unincorporated Lake County and Marion County villages file at their own counters. A quote that only says “we handle the permit” should name the county on the address.
Price, without inventing one
Two Central Florida contractor pages publish panel bands and do not hide the split.
JJ’s Villages page prints a standard 100-amp to 200-amp upgrade at $1,500 to $4,000+. Vetcon’s Ocala Federal Pacific and Zinsco blog prints a 200-amp upgrade at $2,400 to $4,500. Vetcon’s band is an Ocala number. JJ’s is the local one, and the plus sign means its top end is open. Those two systems do not match. We will not average them. We are not inventing a Powell Road midpoint from either system.
Florida license lookup is public. Ask for the EC number and check it before you sign. One shop advertises this work on their own site and prints a license number. JJ’s panel page names Federal Pacific and Zinsco replacements. The shop’s own site prints EC13011671. They write daily work in The Villages and Lady Lake. They are listed for the panel letter, not as a Sumter County directory.
Directory-only shops are omitted. A page that names these brands and does not print a Florida EC number is not a listing. The listed shop is not affiliated with Panel Letter.
What to hand the carrier
The useful packet is the closed Sumter County, Town of Lady Lake, Lake County, or Marion County electrical permit, the passed electrical inspection, an invoice with the license number that was on the permit, and photos if the letter asks. If your electrician produces a load calculation or panel schedule, send that too. We did not find a carrier page that publishes a single statewide sticker form. Ask the agent what they will actually open.

Permit
Sumter County Building Services
Who pulls it: Sumter County Building Services sits at the Villages Sumter County Service Center, 7375 Powell Road, Suite 115, Wildwood, FL 34785. The published phone is 352-689-4400. Permit questions go to building@sumtercountyfl.gov. Hours on that page are Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Inspection scheduling is 352-569-1529. Portal inspection requests before 7:00 p.m. the preceding business day go on the next business day. The inspection line cutoff is 4:00 p.m. the preceding business day. Inside Lady Lake, Building Services sits at 221 W. Guava Street, Lady Lake, FL 32159. That phone is 352-751-1511. Lady Lake permit questions go to building@ladylake.org. Unincorporated Lake County and Marion County villages are not the Powell Road file.
Sumter’s electrical page wants an electric plan. It also wants the existing building permit number, or a recorded deed if there is no existing number. The county FAQ says the contractor or the owner of the property can apply. Florida Statute 489.103 still makes the owner-builder path an in-person file. A quote that only says we handle the permit should name The Villages, Lady Lake, Sumter County, Lake County, or Marion County on the address. Florida electrical-contractor advertising is the EC number. Ask for the EC they will put on the file.
Utility coordination
SECO on most Villages bills
Who disconnects: SECO’s developer page is blunt. That is not a homeowner meter-pull path.
Outage window: SECO does not publish a guaranteed power-off hour count for a residential panel swap.
Confirm the logo on the bill before anyone prices the job. Most Villages and Sumterville addresses are SECO. Some Lady Lake and Lake County roads can be Duke Energy. Those are different disconnect desks. A like-for-like panel swap still needs the county or town inspection and that SECO ticket. A service-size change is still the cooperative’s disconnect and reconnect, not a helper cutting the seal.
What to hand the insurer
- Closed Sumter County, Town of Lady Lake, Lake County, or Marion County electrical permit
- Passed electrical inspection
- SECO or Duke Energy reconnect record if the job needed one
- Invoice showing the Florida EC number used on the permit
- Photos of the old and new panel if the carrier’s letter asks for them
- Load calculation or panel schedule if the electrician produced one
Ask your agent for the exact list. Carriers do not publish a single national checklist.
Electricians who advertise this job
A shop is listed only if it advertises Federal Pacific, Zinsco, or insurance-driven panel replacement on its own site and prints a license number there. Trade-association locators already exist. We will not pad this list. Verify the license before you hire.
To get introduced, use the quote form on this page. We do not send you to the shop from here.
