Do you have an insurance letter about this panel?

Photo upload comes later. A picture of the closed door and the inside label is enough if someone asks.

One phone call on a Thousand Oaks panel job may have to come from you. For a lockring removal or reinstall, Southern California Edison asks that an authorized account holder call 1-800-655-4555.

The city permit is its own step. Replacement of electric services up to and including 200 amps is on the Building Division's list of permit types, and the division says it will attempt to process those as soon as possible.

What Southern California Edison actually wrote

Confirm the logo on the bill before anyone prices the job. The SCE lines below come from Edison's building and renovation request page.

On that page, a panel upgrade (or meter spot) for an existing service connection is listed under Existing Service Connections.

For lockring removals or reinstalls, an authorized account holder should call 1-800-655-4555.

SCE gives no outage length for a residential panel swap on the pages we read.

Volta writes that it pulls the City of Thousand Oaks permit on a panel upgrade and coordinates the inspection. That is a contractor field note.

Permits in Thousand Oaks, and in Westlake Village

City permits run through the Building Division at City Hall, 2100 Thousand Oaks Boulevard. Questions go to (805) 449-2320, and the page asks for a call to (805) 449-2500 before a visit.

Who pulls the permit matters. Municipal Code section 8-4.010 sends electrical permit applications to a properly licensed contractor. The owner exception covers an owner who lives in the single family house, buys all the material, and does all the labor personally.

Westlake Village contracts with Los Angeles County, so a house on the city of Westlake Village side files through EPIC-LA and the county office in Calabasas. Ask a bidder to put the city that will issue the permit on the quote.

Price, without inventing one

Volta's Thousand Oaks and panel pages carry no dollar figure. Both bands below were written in Ventura County, one in Simi Valley and one in Ventura, and neither one prices a Thousand Oaks address.

Safeway models a 100-amp to 200-amp upgrade in Southern California at $2,600 to $4,500. For Ventura jobs, DCP's FAQ gives panel upgrades a $1,500 to $3,500 range. Those two systems do not match. We will not average them. We are not inventing a City Hall midpoint from either system.

Volta prints CA Lic #1100197 on its Thousand Oaks page and on its panel page, which names Zinsco, Federal Pacific Stab-Lok, and certain 1988 Challenger GFCI breakers. In CSLB's record, 1100197 is VOLTA ELECTRIC INC, a C10 Electrical license that is current and active until 01/31/2027, at a Landsburn Circle address in Westlake Village. The shop sits outside the city, but the page it wrote for Thousand Oaks says it pulls City of Thousand Oaks permits and coordinates the inspection.

What to hand the carrier

Send the carrier proof that the work closed. That means the closed City of Thousand Oaks or Los Angeles County electrical permit, the passed inspection, and an invoice carrying the C-10 number from the permit. Photos of the old and new panel help if the letter asks for them, and so does a load calculation or panel schedule if one was made. We did not find a carrier page with a single Ventura County form for this. Your agent can tell you which pages the underwriter reads.

Electricians who advertise this job

A shop is listed only if it advertises Federal Pacific, Zinsco, or insurance-driven panel replacement on its own site and prints a license number there. Trade-association locators already exist. We will not pad this list. Verify the license before you hire.

To get introduced, use the quote form on this page. We do not send you to the shop from here.
