Federal Pacific panel replacement in Fayetteville

A Fayetteville insurance letter that names Federal Pacific is a city electrical permit plus a utility disconnect that is not the same company on every bill. Building Safety issues the Fayetteville file. The logo on the bill is SWEPCO, Ozarks Electric, or Carroll Electric.

Do you have an insurance letter about this panel?

Photo upload comes later. A picture of the closed door and the inside label is enough if someone asks.

The carrier circled Federal Pacific on a Washington County ranch. Building Safety still wants the electrical permit. The logo on the bill is not one company from Fayetteville to Bentonville.

The city inspector will not pull a SWEPCO or Ozarks meter. Those utilities will not print the Civic Access electrical permit. Those two systems do not match. A helper with a van cannot stand in for either one.

What the utilities actually wrote

Northwest Arkansas is not one utility. Confirm the logo on the bill before anyone prices the job.

If the bill says SWEPCO, start with the 2024 Electric Service Handbook. Only personnel who are qualified and authorized by SWEPCO are permitted to remove and install meters.

In special circumstances, exceptions may be granted to qualified electrical contractors by contacting SWEPCO’s Meter Department, Service Center Supervisor, or a designated representative.

That exception is a SWEPCO grant. It is not a homeowner path.

The AEP meter guide that covers SWEPCO is just as blunt on the seal. The breaking of seals by other than authorized persons or tampering with the Company’s meters and measuring devices is prohibited.

If the bill says Ozarks Electric, that is a different company. Ozarks lists unauthorized use of service, tampering with, or damaging Cooperative equipment, including the meter, as grounds to refuse or discontinue service. A fee is assessed when a seal at the service entrance is found disturbed. Any meter disconnected and removed is tested before reinstall if the meter seal has been broken. Member services are 479-521-2900.

Franklin’s own panel page names SWEPCO or Carroll Electric and does not name Ozarks. The Springdale Chamber utility page lists Ozarks, SWEPCO, and Carroll in the same metro. Those two systems do not match.

None of those utilities publish a guaranteed power-off hour count. Franklin describes a 4 to 8 hour power-off window. That is a contractor field note.

Permits in Fayetteville, Springdale, and the rest of NWA

Inside Fayetteville, start at Building Safety, 125 West Mountain Street. Development Services is 479-575-8233. Files go through the Civic Access portal. The fee schedule prints an electrical permit at $2.03 per $1,000 of valuation, $55 minimum.

Who pulls the permit matters. Third-party permit blogs disagree about whether a Fayetteville homeowner can hold a pure electrical file. The city’s own Development Services pages do not print a one-line owner-electrician exemption for panel replacement. Ask Building Safety which name goes on the Civic Access file before you sign. Owning the home does not mean you should pull the permit and then hire someone under your name.

Springdale is not the Mountain Street file. Springdale’s electrical-permits page lists City Hall at 201 Spring Street, phone 479-750-8114. Bentonville, Rogers, and other NWA cities file at their own counters. A quote that only says “we handle the permit” should name the city on the address.

Price, without inventing one

Two Northwest Arkansas contractor pages publish 200-amp bands that do not match.

Mr. Electric of Fayetteville’s Springdale page prints $1,500 to $3,500 for a standard 200-amp replacement. They say the number moves with existing wiring, meter-base work, and scope inside the panel.

Franklin’s NWA page prints $4,900s to $6,900s for most 200-amp replacements, all-in with permit, breakers, and utility coordination. Full service upgrades are printed from the $6,900s. They say sales tax is extra and rates can move.

Those two systems do not match. We will not average them. We are not inventing a Wedington midpoint from either band.

Arkansas license lookup is public. Ask for the Board of Electrical Examiners number and check it before you sign. One shop advertises this work on their own site and prints a license number. Franklin’s panel-upgrade page names Federal Pacific Stab-Lok and Zinsco. The same shop’s Terms of Service page prints AR Electrical #RM-1111. They write daily work across Fayetteville, Springdale, Rogers, and Bentonville. They are listed for the panel letter, not as an NWA directory.

Directory-only shops are omitted. A page that names these brands and does not print an Arkansas license number is not a listing. The listed shop is not affiliated with Panel Letter.

What to hand the carrier

The useful packet is the closed Fayetteville, Springdale, or other NWA city electrical permit, the passed electrical inspection, an invoice with the license number that was on the permit, and photos if the letter asks. If your electrician produces a load calculation or panel schedule, send that too. We did not find a carrier page that publishes a single statewide sticker form. Ask the agent what they will actually open.

Electricians who advertise this job

A shop is listed only if it advertises Federal Pacific, Zinsco, or insurance-driven panel replacement on its own site and prints a license number there. Trade-association locators already exist. We will not pad this list. Verify the license before you hire.

To get introduced, use the quote form on this page. We do not send you to the shop from here.
