Panel Letter

Punta Gorda / Port Charlotte / Charlotte County

Federal Pacific panel replacement in Punta Gorda

The letter names Federal Pacific. The file is the Building Division at 126 Harvey Street if you are inside the city. FPL owns the conductors going to the house.

Last reviewed 2026-10-16. Print this page if you need a copy for someone else in the house.

Request quotes from licensed electricians who do insurance-flagged panel replacement

Do you have an insurance letter about this panel?

Photo upload comes later. A picture of the closed door and the inside label is enough if someone asks.

FPL still wants its own disconnect ticket. The Harvey Street counter still wants the electrical permit first. Swift Electrical Repair names Federal Pacific, Zinsco, and Challenger on its Port Charlotte and Punta Gorda panel page and prints License #EC13014879 on the homepage.

FPL alone may disconnect the service conductors. The Building Division alone issues the Harvey Street permit. Those two systems do not match. Neither job belongs to a helper parked at City Hall. Ask the quote to name who files FPL and who files Harvey Street.

What the utilities actually wrote

Confirm the utility printed on your bill before anyone prices the disconnect.

Start with the Project Portal job aid. Customers can self-schedule disconnect and reconnect appointments for single-phase residential services under 320 amps.

Only FPL is authorized to disconnect service conductors going to the home.

All electrical work involving a meter enclosure requires an electrical inspection by the inspecting authority before FPL re-energizes the service.

Inspections must be submitted to FPL by 1 p.m. Eastern so same-day reconnect is possible.

The Electric Service Standards add a second path. FPL normally performs both the disconnect and the reconnect. A licensed and qualified electrical contractor may disconnect an overhead single-phase service of 300 amps or less only when FPL approves it, the attachment point stays intact, no FPL locking device is on the socket, and a reconnect appointment is already scheduled. That exception is not a homeowner meter-pull path.

FPL does not publish a guaranteed power-off hour count. The listed shop writes that a standard panel replacement typically takes 4 to 8 hours. That is a contractor field note.

Permits in Punta Gorda and in Charlotte County

Inside the city, start at the Building Division, second floor of the City Hall Annex at 126 Harvey Street. The phone is 941-575-3324.

Who pulls the permit matters. Customers cannot apply for building permits online. Trade applications go by email or in person. If a contractor does the work, their EC number belongs on the Harvey Street or Murdock Circle application, not an owner-builder signature under your name.

Unincorporated Charlotte County, including Port Charlotte, files at 18400 Murdock Circle. An owner-builder on that county file must appear in person, sign the application, and pick up the permit. Murdock Circle and Harvey Street do not share one window. This page is the Harvey Street and Murdock Circle files and FPL’s Charlotte County rules. It does not cover Fort Myers, Lee County, or North Port counters. A quote that only says “we handle the permit” should name the city on the address.

Price, without inventing one

Swift prints no dollar figure, so neither band below is a Charlotte County price.

Advantage’s Destin page, written for the Panhandle, puts Federal Pacific or Zinsco replacement at $2,000 to $4,500. Stevenson’s Palm Coast page puts FPE, Zinsco, or Challenger at $2,200 to $3,000. Both shops sit hours from Harvey Street, so treat the numbers as Florida reference, not a Punta Gorda quote. Those two systems do not match. We will not average them. We are not inventing a Harvey Street midpoint from either system.

Paste the EC number from the quote into Florida’s DBPR search and confirm the business name before you sign. Swift’s panel page names Federal Pacific, Zinsco, and Challenger. The shop’s own site prints License #EC13014879. The homepage lists Port Charlotte, Deep Creek, Gulf Cove, and Rotonda beside Punta Gorda. One shop on this page is not a Charlotte County roster.

Directory-only shops are omitted. Any site that names these panels and skips the EC number stayed off the list. The listed shop is not affiliated with Panel Letter.

What to hand the carrier

The useful packet is the closed City of Punta Gorda or Charlotte County electrical permit, the passed electrical inspection, an invoice with the license number that was on the permit, and photos if the letter asks. If your electrician produces a load calculation or panel schedule, send that too. We did not find a carrier page that publishes a single statewide sticker form. Ask the agent what they will actually open.

Electricians who advertise this job

A shop is listed only if it advertises Federal Pacific, Zinsco, or insurance-driven panel replacement on its own site and prints a license number there. Trade-association locators already exist. We will not pad this list. Verify the license before you hire.

To get introduced, use the quote form on this page. We do not send you to the shop from here.
