A Yellowstone Highway ranch box and an Idaho Falls Power connect order is how a lot of Idaho Falls letters start. The carrier still named Federal Pacific on the panel.
The city inspector will not pull an Idaho Falls Power meter. Idaho Falls Power will not print the 380 Constitution Way electrical permit. Those two systems do not match. A helper with a van cannot stand in for either one.
What the utilities actually wrote
Most Idaho Falls city bills are Idaho Falls Power. Confirm the logo on the bill before anyone prices the job.
Start with the 2026 Service Policy. All meters installed by IFP are owned by IFP and all maintenance of the meters shall be completed by IFP.
Only authorized IFP personnel shall be allowed to remove meters from meter bases on the Customer’s premises.
That is not a homeowner meter-pull path.
The reconnect ticket is the Building Department. Have the city electrical inspector pass the work. A connect order then goes from the Building Department to Idaho Falls Power. IFP does not publish a guaranteed power-off hour count.
Some Southeast Idaho addresses are Rocky Mountain Power or Fall River Electric. Those utilities do not match as one company. Read the bill before anyone prices the disconnect.
Permits in Idaho Falls and in Bonneville County
Inside Idaho Falls, start at the Building Division, 380 Constitution Way. The phone is 208-612-8270. The city has its own electrical inspectors.
Who pulls the permit matters. The city’s electrical page will not inspect work that never received a permit. Starting without one doubles the fee. Idaho DOPL still lets a homeowner buy a permit only when that homeowner is doing the work. Idaho Code 54-1016 is the same exemption. Owning the home does not mean you should pull the permit and then hire someone under your name.
Ammon, Iona, Ucon, Shelley, Rigby, and unincorporated Bonneville County file at their own counters. A quote that only says “we handle the permit” should name the city on the address.
Price, without inventing one
One Southeast Idaho contractor page publishes a national panel band and a higher local note.
Advanced Home’s April 30, 2026 Idaho Falls guide prints a national straightforward 100-amp to 200-amp replacement at $1,300 to $3,000. The same page says Southeast Idaho jobs with a new meter base, a relocated panel, or older-home remediation can run $4,000 or higher. That is a different scope. We are not inventing a Yellowstone Highway midpoint from the printed national band.
Idaho DOPL lookup is public. Ask for the electrical contractor number and check it before you sign. One shop advertises this work on their own site and prints a license number. Minuteman’s panel-upgrade page names Zinsco and Federal Pacific. The shop’s own site prints Electrical License #36546. They write daily work from 3912 N Yellowstone Hwy. They are listed for the panel letter, not as a Bonneville County directory.
Directory-only shops are omitted. A page that names these brands and does not print an Idaho electrical number is not a listing. The listed shop is not affiliated with Panel Letter.
What to hand the carrier
The useful packet is the closed City of Idaho Falls, Bonneville County, or other municipal electrical permit, the passed electrical inspection, an invoice with the license number that was on the permit, and photos if the letter asks. If your electrician produces a load calculation or panel schedule, send that too. We did not find a carrier page that publishes a single statewide sticker form. Ask the agent what they will actually open.

Permit
City of Idaho Falls Building Division
Who pulls it: The Building Division sits at 380 Constitution Way, Idaho Falls, ID 83405. The permit desk phone is 208-612-8270. The city’s electrical page is blunt. No inspections can be made until the required permits for performing the work are issued. Starting work without a permit doubles the fee. Idaho Falls has its own electrical inspectors. Chief Electrical Inspector Gabe Madrid is at 208-360-9214. Inspector Steve Nielson is at 208-541-0106. Statewide, Idaho DOPL says a homeowner may purchase an electrical permit only when they themselves are doing the work on a primary or secondary residence and related outbuildings. Homeowner permits are not valid for commercial buildings. Idaho Code 54-1016 is the same rule. The licensing exemption is the owner performing the work. Ammon, Iona, Ucon, and unincorporated Bonneville County are not the 380 Constitution Way file.
Ammon, Iona, Ucon, Shelley, Rigby, and unincorporated Bonneville County file at their own counters or through Idaho DOPL where the city has not assumed electrical jurisdiction. A quote that only says we handle the permit should name the city on the address. Idaho licensing for this work is a DOPL electrical contractor number. Ask for the number they will put on the Idaho Falls file.
Utility coordination
Idaho Falls Power on most city bills
Who disconnects: Idaho Falls Power’s 2026 Service Policy is blunt on the meter. All meters installed by IFP are owned by IFP and all maintenance of the meters shall be completed by IFP. Only authorized IFP personnel shall be allowed to remove meters from meter bases on the Customer’s premises. Authorized IFP personnel install the meter on a customer-provided meter base after the required steps. External main disconnects are required on all new residential points of service and on meter-base replacements. That disconnect sits after the meter. IFP’s stop, start, and move page is the reconnect ticket. You will need to have your work inspected by the City Electrical Inspectors at the Building Department. When the changes have been inspected and passed, a connect order will be generated from the building department to Idaho Falls Power to energize the power. That is not a homeowner meter-pull path.
Outage window: Idaho Falls Power does not publish a guaranteed power-off hour count for a residential panel swap.
Confirm the logo on the bill before anyone prices the job. Most Idaho Falls city addresses are Idaho Falls Power. Advanced Home writes that some Southeast Idaho addresses are Rocky Mountain Power or Fall River Electric. Those utilities do not match as one company. A like-for-like panel swap still needs the city inspection and that utility disconnect. A service-size change is still that disconnect and reconnect, not a helper cutting the seal. Minuteman writes that some upgrades coordinate with Rocky Mountain Power. That is a contractor field note about the bill, not a second IFP rule.
What to hand the insurer
- Closed City of Idaho Falls, Bonneville County, or other municipal electrical permit
- Passed electrical inspection
- Invoice showing the Idaho electrical contractor number used on the permit
- Photos of the old and new panel if the carrier’s letter asks for them
- Load calculation or panel schedule if the electrician produced one
Ask your agent for the exact list. Carriers do not publish a single national checklist.
Electricians who advertise this job
A shop is listed only if it advertises Federal Pacific, Zinsco, or insurance-driven panel replacement on its own site and prints a license number there. Trade-association locators already exist. We will not pad this list. Verify the license before you hire.
To get introduced, use the quote form on this page. We do not send you to the shop from here.
