Federal Pacific panel replacement in Lake Charles

A Lake Charles insurance letter that names Federal Pacific is a city or parish electrical permit plus an Entergy Louisiana disconnect. The Permit Center issues the city file. Entergy owns the meter on most Lake Charles bills.

Photo upload comes later. A picture of the closed door and the inside label is enough if someone asks.

The carrier circled Federal Pacific on a Calcasieu ranch that went back up after Laura. The Permit Center still wants the electrical permit. Entergy Louisiana still owns the meter on most Lake Charles bills.

The city inspector will not break an Entergy seal. Entergy will not print the city electrical permit. Those two systems do not match. A helper with a van cannot stand in for either one.

What Entergy Louisiana actually wrote

Start with the Customer Installation Standards. Under no circumstances shall any service drop, meter or equipment belonging to the Company be disconnected, removed, or relocated unless authorized by the Company.

This authorization requires advance notification.

The Company schedules a service connection after the authority having jurisdiction has notified the Company that required permits and inspections are passed and approved.

Hayes Electrical writes that on install day they pull the meter or coordinate with Entergy to pull it. Entergy’s standard still requires Company authorization and advance notice. Those two systems do not match.

Confirm the logo on the bill. Most City of Lake Charles addresses are Entergy Louisiana. Some parish addresses are Cleco. Hayes names both cuts.

Entergy does not publish a guaranteed power-off hour count. Hayes describes a 6 to 10 hour power-off window on a typical panel change. That is a contractor field note.

Permits inside Lake Charles and in Calcasieu Parish

Inside the city, start at the Permit Center. Questions go to 337-491-1294. Inspections go to 337-491-1370. Files go through My Government Online. Separate permits are required for each trade.

Who pulls the permit matters. Section 6-38 wants a permit before the electrical system is replaced. Section 6-106 issues that permit to a license holder. The occupying owner of a single-family dwelling can take the file if that owner can answer the inspector’s questions and draw the sketches. It is a violation for that owner to contract the electrical work to anyone except a registered electrical contractor. Owning the home does not mean you should pull the permit and then hire someone under your name.

If you are the applicant on residential work valued over $7,500, Louisiana still wants the Affidavit Claiming Exemption from Licensure. You have to supervise the work yourself. You may not hire an unlicensed person as your contractor.

Parish addresses outside the city file with Calcasieu Parish Planning and Development at 337-721-3610. The parish page says permits are required before installation of electrical wiring. Sulphur, Westlake, and Iowa, Louisiana, file at their own counters. A quote that only says “we handle the permit” should name the city or parish on the address.

Price, without inventing one

Hayes Electrical’s Lake Charles panel-upgrade page publishes one job band and does not hide the caveats. A typical 100-amp to 200-amp upgrade is printed at $3,500 to $6,000. They say the number moves with AFCI and GFCI breaker count and whether the meter base, service-entrance cable, and weatherhead stay. We will not average them. We are not inventing a Calcasieu midpoint from this band.

Louisiana license lookup is public. Ask for the LSLBC number and check it before you sign. One shop advertises this work on their own site and prints a license number. Hayes Electrical’s panel page names Federal Pacific Stab-Lok, Zinsco, and Challenger and prints LA Lic #73821. They write daily work across Lake Charles, Sulphur, and Moss Bluff. They are listed for the panel letter, not as a Southwest Louisiana directory.

Directory-only shops are omitted. A page that names these brands and does not print a Louisiana contractor license number is not a listing. The listed shop is not affiliated with Panel Letter.

What to hand the carrier

The useful packet is the closed city or parish electrical permit, the passed electrical inspection, an invoice with the license number that was on the permit, and photos if the letter asks. If your electrician produces a load calculation or panel schedule, send that too. We did not find a carrier page that publishes a single statewide sticker form. Ask the agent what they will actually open.

Electricians who advertise this job

A shop is listed only if it advertises Federal Pacific, Zinsco, or insurance-driven panel replacement on its own site and prints a license number there. Trade-association locators already exist. We will not pad this list. Verify the license before you hire.

To get introduced, use the quote form on this page. We do not send you to the shop from here.
