Federal Pacific panel replacement in Louisville

Carriers in Louisville keep flagging Zinsco and Federal Pacific in Fern Creek ranch stock and St. Matthews basements. Hadley’s Louisville page treats both as insurance flags. Your letter is usually written somewhere else. Inside Jefferson County the permit runs through Construction Review, and on almost every bill the meter belongs to LG&E.

Those two systems do not match. The metro issues the electrical permit. LG&E will not treat an unannounced meter pull as ordinary maintenance. A helper with a van is not the person who can print that permit or call the locator.

What LG&E actually wrote

Start with the landlord meter page. Meters are the property of LG&E. Contact LG&E whenever a meter needs to be removed.

The service-connection page is the restore rule. A state-certified inspector has to check the work before the company can safely connect service. In the Louisville area, the inspector has to tell LG&E the work is inspected and ready for service to be restored.

LG&E told the Kentucky Public Service Commission what happens when that notice is skipped. An electrical contractor who needs to remove a meter should notify the designated LG&E locator and tell LG&E the meter needs to be resealed when the work is complete. Cutting a seal without that notice is how a later meter-reader visit gets treated as tampering. That is not a homeowner meter-pull path.

Confirm the logo on the bill. Most Jefferson County addresses are LG&E. Southern Indiana across the river is a different ticket.

LG&E does not publish a guaranteed power-off hour count. Hadley describes four to eight hours off on install day. That is a contractor field note.

Permits inside Louisville and in the nearby counties

Inside Louisville and Jefferson County, start at Construction Review. The electrical-permit page cites Kentucky Building Code section 105.1. You need a permit to install or add a new electrical panel and breakers.

Who pulls the permit matters. A homeowner may obtain a permit if that homeowner is performing the work on their own home. The home has to be the owner’s primary residence for the next 12 months. Otherwise a licensed electrician pulls the permit. Owning the home does not mean you should pull the permit and then hire someone under your name.

Bullitt County and the Indiana towns across the river file at their own counters. A quote that only says “we handle the permit” should name the city on the address.

Price, without inventing one

Hadley’s Louisville service-upgrade page publishes two installed bands and does not hide the spread. A residential 100-amp to 200-amp upgrade is printed at $2,000 to $4,500, including the new panel, breakers, meter base, and permit. Same-amperage panel replacement on that same page is $1,500 to $3,000. Those two systems do not match. We will not average them. We are not inventing a third Louisville midpoint from either row.

Kentucky license lookup is public. Ask for the CE or ME number and check it before you sign. Two shops advertise this work on their own sites and print a license number. Hadley’s service-upgrade page names Federal Pacific and Zinsco and prints CE64623. Beta’s homepage names those brands and prints CE66210. Hadley lists a Preston Highway office. Beta writes Fern Creek, Okolona, and St. Matthews. They are listed for the panel letter, not as a Bullitt County directory.

Directory-only shops are omitted. A page that names these brands and does not print a Kentucky CE or ME number is not a listing. The listed shops are not affiliated with Panel Letter.

What to hand the carrier

The useful packet is the closed metro or suburban electrical permit, the passed inspection, the LG&E restore notice, an invoice with the license number that was on the permit, and photos if the letter asks. If your electrician produces a load calculation or panel schedule, send that too. We did not find a carrier page that publishes a single statewide sticker form. Ask the agent what they will actually open.
