Ocala Electric Utility wrote the seal rule in city code. Building Services still wants the electrical permit before anyone prices a meter pull. The letter in your hand does not replace either desk.
The city inspector will not own the Ocala Electric Utility seal. Ocala Electric Utility will not print the Third Street electrical permit. Those two systems do not match. A helper with a van cannot stand in for either one.
What the utilities actually wrote
Most city of Ocala bills are Ocala Electric Utility. Confirm the logo on the bill before anyone prices the job.
Start with Chapter 70 of the city code. All meters will be sealed by a representative of the utility.
Such meter seals must not be removed, destroyed or tampered with by any person other than an authorized representative of the utility.
Unauthorized connections or tampering shall subject the customer to a fine, replacement costs, prosecution under the laws of the state, bill adjustment, and discontinuance of service. That is not a homeowner meter-pull path.
Ocala Electric Utility does not publish a guaranteed power-off hour count. Marion County roads can be a different cooperative or investor-owned desk. That is a different disconnect desk.
Permits in Ocala and in Marion County
Inside the city, start at Building Services, 201 SE 3rd Street, 2nd floor. The phone is 352-629-8421.
Who pulls the permit matters. Applications go in person at the Customer Service Center or through eTrakit. The city still lists an Owner Builder Disclosure Statement. That path is self-perform work. Owning the home does not mean you should pull the permit and then hire someone under your name.
Unincorporated Marion County files at its own counter. A quote that only says “we handle the permit” should name the city on the address.
Price, without inventing one
Two Florida contractor pages publish panel bands and do not hide the split.
Vetcon’s Ocala Federal Pacific and Zinsco blog prints a 200-amp upgrade at $2,400 to $4,500. Stevenson’s Palm Coast page prints FPE, Zinsco, or Challenger replacement at $2,200 to $3,000. Stevenson's service list stops at Flagler and Volusia towns, so treat that band as a Florida comparison, not an Ocala quote. Those two systems do not match. We will not average them. We are not inventing a Third Street midpoint from either system.
Florida license lookup is public. Ask for the EC number and check it before you sign. One shop advertises this work on their own site and prints a license number. Vetcon’s blog names Federal Pacific and Zinsco. The shop’s own site prints EC13014211. They write daily work from 2301 NE 17th PL. They are listed for the panel letter, not as a Marion County directory.
Directory-only shops are omitted. A page that names these brands and does not print a Florida EC number is not a listing. The listed shop is not affiliated with Panel Letter.
What to hand the carrier
The useful packet is the closed City of Ocala or Marion County electrical permit, the passed electrical inspection, an invoice with the license number that was on the permit, and photos if the letter asks. If your electrician produces a load calculation or panel schedule, send that too. We did not find a carrier page that publishes a single statewide sticker form. Ask the agent what they will actually open.
Typical replacement cost
One Ocala shop and one Palm Coast shop publish Florida panel bands that do not match. We are not inventing a Third Street midpoint from them
$2,400 to $4,500
200-amp upgrade printed by an Ocala shop
Their Ocala Federal Pacific and Zinsco blog. The same table prints a 150-amp upgrade at $2,000 to $3,200. Those two lines do not match. A Palm Coast shop prints FPE, Zinsco, or Challenger replacement at $2,200 to $3,000. Those two systems do not match. We will not average them. We are not inventing a Third Street midpoint from either system.

FPE, Zinsco, or Challenger replacement printed by a Palm Coast shop

Permit
City of Ocala Building Services
Who pulls it: Building Services sits at 201 SE 3rd Street, 2nd floor, Ocala, FL 34471. The published phone is 352-629-8421. Permit questions go to building@ocalafl.gov. Applications go in person at the Customer Service Center or through eTrakit. Unincorporated Marion County is not the Third Street file.
The construction-permits page is blunt. All applications must be submitted in person at 201 SE 3rd Street or through eTrakit. The city still lists an Owner Builder Disclosure Statement. That path is self-perform work. Florida Statute 489.103 still makes the owner-builder path an in-person file. A quote that only says we handle the permit should name Ocala or Marion County on the address. Florida electrical-contractor advertising is the EC number. Ask for the EC they will put on the Building Services file.
Utility coordination
Ocala Electric Utility on most city of Ocala bills
Who disconnects: Ocala’s utility code is blunt about the seal. All meters will be sealed by a representative of the utility. Such meter seals must not be removed, destroyed or tampered with by any person other than an authorized representative of the utility. Unauthorized connections to or tampering with utility meters, meter seals or metering equipment shall subject the customer to a fine, replacement costs, prosecution under the laws of the state, bill adjustment, and discontinuance of service until the indebtedness is paid. That is not a homeowner meter-pull path.
Outage window: Ocala Electric Utility does not publish a guaranteed power-off hour count for a residential panel swap.
Confirm the logo on the bill before anyone prices the job. Most city of Ocala addresses are Ocala Electric Utility. Marion County roads can be a different cooperative or investor-owned desk. Those are different disconnect desks. A like-for-like panel swap still needs the city inspection and that utility ticket. A service-size change is still the company’s disconnect and reconnect, not a helper cutting the seal.
What to hand the insurer
- Closed City of Ocala or Marion County electrical permit
- Passed electrical inspection
- Ocala Electric Utility or other utility reconnect record if the job needed one
- Invoice showing the Florida EC number used on the permit
- Photos of the old and new panel if the carrier’s letter asks for them
- Load calculation or panel schedule if the electrician produced one
Ask your agent for the exact list. Carriers do not publish a single national checklist.
Electricians who advertise this job
A shop is listed only if it advertises Federal Pacific, Zinsco, or insurance-driven panel replacement on its own site and prints a license number there. Trade-association locators already exist. We will not pad this list. Verify the license before you hire.
To get introduced, use the quote form on this page. We do not send you to the shop from here.
