Federal Pacific panel replacement in Mobile

A Mobile insurance letter that names Federal Pacific is a city electrical permit plus an Alabama Power ticket. Build Mobile sits at 205 Government Street. Alabama Power owns the meter.

Do you have an insurance letter about this panel?

Photo upload comes later. A picture of the closed door and the inside label is enough if someone asks.

Alabama Power tells you never to pull the meter yourself. Build Mobile still wants the Government Street file. One Mobile shop names Federal Pacific and Zinsco on its own site and prints an Alabama electrical license number.

Build Mobile can close the Government Street electrical permit. It cannot pull Alabama Power’s meter. Only the Business Service Center can schedule the meter disconnect and reconnect. Those two systems do not match.

What the utilities actually wrote

Most Mobile bills are Alabama Power. Confirm the logo on the bill before anyone prices the job.

Start with the generator-safety brochure. Never attempt to remove your home’s electric meter.

The after-the-storm page adds a second rule. The meter box belongs to the customer, not Alabama Power. If the meter box is damaged, a licensed electrician has to make the repairs before Alabama Power is allowed to restore power.

The builders portal adds the disconnect desk. Call 1-888-430-5787. Be prepared to share the 911 address, meter number, or account number.

Allow up to three business days to complete a disconnect or reconnect, weather permitting. Electrical inspection release must match the 911 address exactly. That is not a homeowner meter-pull path.

Alabama Power does not publish a guaranteed power-off hour count.

Permits in Mobile

Inside the city, start at Build Mobile, 205 Government Street, 3rd Floor, South Tower. The permitting phone is 251-208-5895.

Who pulls the permit matters. Mobile’s Open Now page says construction projects require a building permit and that trade permits exist so licensed professionals do the work. If you are paying an electrician, the electrician’s name belongs on the Build Mobile application, not yours.

The city’s homeowner electrical affidavit is a path for work the owner intends to install. Addresses outside the city limits are not the Government Street file. The Government Street counter and the City of Mobile electrical-permit rules on this page do not cover those addresses. A quote that only says “we handle the permit” should name the city on the address.

Price, without inventing one

Neither printed band below was written for a Mobile house.

Advantage’s Destin page prints Federal Pacific or Zinsco replacement at $2,000 to $4,500. Banks Quarles’ Tuscaloosa FAQ prints a 100-amp to 200-amp upgrade at $2,500 to $4,000. One is a Florida Panhandle price and the other comes from Tuscaloosa, not the coast. Peaden’s panels page skips pricing, so ask for a written figure before you weigh it against either band. Those two systems do not match. We will not average them. We are not inventing a Government Street midpoint from either system.

The Alabama Electrical Contractors Board keeps the license record, so look the number up before work starts. Peaden’s Mobile County panels page names Federal Pacific or Zinsco replacements. The license, AL Electric 09852, prints on Peaden’s Baldwin County electrical page on the same peaden.com site. Their panels page lists Mobile, Saraland, and Tillmans Corner. They are listed for the panel letter, not as a Mobile County directory.

Directory-only shops are omitted. A page that names these brands and does not print an Alabama license number is not a listing. The listed shop is not affiliated with Panel Letter.

What to hand the carrier

The useful packet is the closed City of Mobile electrical permit, the passed electrical inspection, an invoice with the license number that was on the permit, and photos if the letter asks. If your electrician produces a load calculation or panel schedule, send that too. We did not find a carrier page that publishes a single statewide sticker form. Ask the agent what they will actually open.

Electricians who advertise this job

A shop is listed only if it advertises Federal Pacific, Zinsco, or insurance-driven panel replacement on its own site and prints a license number there. Trade-association locators already exist. We will not pad this list. Verify the license before you hire.

To get introduced, use the quote form on this page. We do not send you to the shop from here.
